How much would a shop charge to replace both of the rear spring shackles on a 94 Explorer? I realize that shop charges vary by location, but about how many hours of labor should a shop charge? Also, how much should the parts cost?

i believe it calls for at least an hour of labor on both sides. I know my brother did bot mine on my 93 that i had because the shackle rusted and broke. They are a big pain in the ass because they are riveted to the frame and he had to use an air chisel and a torch to get them off. He cursed me after it was done.

did the shackles and mounts on both of my rangers. shackles about 45 mins for the pair. about an hour for each mount. i spent $15 on rear mounts, $20 for the fronts, and i went with chevy drop shackles about $35 for the pair.
You really could do it yourself if you just changed the shackles, PB Blaster and a ratchet and ur groovy. mounts u might wanna give to a shop just cause its a pain.

Very common on all year rangers.

I have no clue about price, but replacing two shackles is very easy if you ask me, I did it to my Ranger. For some reason I took them off when I changed my leafs, still don't know why I took them off too... It is just a few bolts, probably kinda tight, but nothing WD can't fix. Even if you have absolutaly no clue how to work on a car, I think you would be able to tackle the shackles. That is just my opinion though. And you would be saving yourself alot of money too.

I don't know what post everyone is reading but he doesn't have a ranger he's asking about an EXPLORER. Remove the upper bolt, remove the loser bolt and change the shackel. I had one that was tough. Put some heat on the bolt, not enough to melt the bushing, and hit it with a hammer. Very simple very easy.

All in know is that just about every leaf spring bolt I have taken out has been an absolute bitch. This is what happens to them in the rust belt and if the shackle is rusted out then I would guess the bolt is rusted to the steel sleeve in the bushing.

Thanks for the replies everybody. I know that replacing the shackles myself would be pretty easy, except for dealing with the rusted bolts. But I would pretty much have to have a shop do it, since my mom doesn't trust me working on cars even when I tell her a million times that I know what I'm doing. That's why I mostly needed to know how much a shop would charge for this. I gotta take the Ex in soon in anyway for a tranny flush, radiator flush, and A/C recharged.
