got a real problem. my son and i are redoing a 84 ranger 4x4 shortbed that was smashed really bad. we got the body done (still needs stripped and painted) the body has no rust and the floors are great shape, even the bed floor is rust free,BUT inside the cowl area has rust in it and right before we were getting ready to put padding and a rubber floor covering i noticed it was wet! there is only a small axcess hole to grt in there , how would you go about fixing it at home? has anyone had this problem before. if it was to be a mudder i wouldnt care but this is my 15 year olds son first 4x4 so its a big deal to both of us. please help me

There was a thread in another forum on rust around the windshield by Z-Man...if your floor inside the cab is wet it can come from a few places such as the windshield, pillars, or even the heater core...I would say pull the dash to check the firewall up near the windshield...if that is rusted it is plenty of work to repair but it can be done...if the windshield is leaking that too can be fixed with less effort...but the first step is to find out where it is leaking...

I think "copycat" (search his name, or maybe PM him) has some pics of how to remove the cowl, with some pics. Its a bit of work.

He upgraded to the later style cowl with holes instead of big leaf swallowing slots too, it would be a worthwhile swap while you have it off. Leaves get in there and plug up the drain holes, then water collects and it rusts out.
