Just went through rebuild on 88 2.9L. Engine barely running....very rough and wont stay running.....any ideas

Check spark, fuel delivery, air intake, and timing for starters. Make sure you are getting the right amounts of all of these things at the correct times. As far as anything else goes I really can't say without more info. Will it start? Can you keep it running if you increase throttle? Does it get worse or better with throttle? How long do you have to crank it to start? Give us more so we can help ya more =].

Agree with Disturbed MXer. You also need to check for vacumn leaks. If you just did a rebuild, you may have left a hose off somewhere or not got a gasket on quite right.
