Hi, Hope I am posting this is the right area but here it goes.
My truck started acting funny, its a 1991 Ranger with a 4litre. It would idle high then low had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running the last couple of times I drove it, it finally quit in the driveway. It is getting spark and fuel, starts but as soon as you put it in gear it wants to stall and idles rough.
I had a mechanic over yesterday and he figured the timing chain had jumped a couple of teeth, not sure if I believe that or not alot of work to find out. My way of thinking is that it would be extremely tough to start and it would be back firing like crazy if it had jumped? Also the truck drains the battery when sitting which I know is some sort of short but maybe it goes with what is wrong with it. Its high mileage truck 428000k'ms LOL hey still passes the emissions test. Has anyone had this problem out there? I'm wondering if it is a EGR valve or something I don't know how to read the computer. Any infor greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
