my brother has a 1996 2.3L ranger. has a check engine light on for "running lean on bank 1"

any ideas on wut this could be

he removed his hyper chip and removed the accell performance ignition coils.

any ideas will help

my guess would be a dirty MAF, exhaust leak before front oxygen sensor (probably cracked manifold) or a bad oxygen sensor

MAf maybe, the truck has a cold air system. that might have something to do with it. the exhaust is solid and has no broken mufflers or anything. might check 02 sensor.

I meant a crack in the exhaust manifold, or a leaky manifold to head gasket, it's rare, but any air getting in before the oxygen sensor will cause it to think it's lean

Check for vaccum leaks yet?

a dirty MAF will cause wierd things to happen...

I have OBD code P1163 on my 1996 XLT 4 cylinder. Checker checked it and it read the same as you're saying... lean on bank 1. Did you ever resolve it?
