The other day my ranger was makin bad noise coming from the clutchal/ transmission area. I am hoping for the best and it is just a throwout bearing, slave cylinder, or clutch problem as I'm in college and have no money to start with. But if there is a big problem with the tranny I am going to find a M50d from a junkyard and bolt it up to my 2.9L. (one step down to a 4.0L swap). the tcase is the BW 1350 electronic. I am assuming since everything else is interchangeable, driveshafts, clutches etc. that the T-case should be too. I know i have to get a 4x4 tranny. This should work right? after getting all the other parts i need for the swap.

The noise comes around when you push the clutch in. It sounds like I'm dragging a chain behind me when i push in the clutch. let the clutch back out and it goes away. It is also hard to find first and 2nd gear when i downshift while moving. If your going faster than 15 it wont find 2nd and faster than 5 it won't find 1st. Complete stop it'll find any gear. upshifting is no problem. Though the day I noticed the noise it was a little difficult getting out of 3rd. there was resistance.

It's probably going to be the throwout bearing if the noise is there when you push in the clutch pedal, and leaves when the clutch it out.

thats why we were thinking throwout bearing. But why would the tranny be like that with 1st and 2nd gear? when you try to find them its like you cant even feel the indent of the gear? unless you get to those low speeds and even then its a forceful motion that I do not like at all. so I usally do the complete stop before moving again.:icon_twisted:

I have a buddy who runs a VW trans shop out of his garage, he was talkin about that downshifting wearin down synchros over an extended period of time. I'd just change the throwout bearing and refrain from engine braking. Course that could just be a VW problem, I don't know for sure. My father land lost two world wars, but we're getting even.:icon_hornsup:
