running board dilema

I live in Michigan, where salt fall easily doubles snowfall. My truck has just enough lift to need a step but I don't want the rust damage that comes with salt and ice wrapping around traditional running boards/ nerf bars, but most of the small hoop steps don't seem to fit rangers according to their specs and cost an arm and a leg. any of you guys know of a cheaper alternative?

Please keep in mind that I'm a college student and have no fabrication experience
