RumbleGoat Racing Charges to 2nd Place Finish in 2008 Best in the Desert Class 7300 Points

Richland, WA – After overcoming a setback in the Henderson’s Fabtech Desert Classic, RumbleGoat Racing (RGR) finished second and cemented the number two position in the Best in the Desert Class 7300 points race for 2008. The team’s rookie effort culminated in a wheel-to-wheel battle with now two time points champion Carl Fitts.

“We exchanged the lead with the 7301 (Fitts) no less than 4 times on the first lap. He was a little faster in the big terrain, but we had the edge in the twisties and the medium size bumps. Our goal was to finish strong in our 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 that we call “El Chivo”, explained RGR’s Jim Moss. “Combined with four wheel drive, our Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs pulled us to a top speed of 97mph according to IRC Tracking.”

Fozzie Walters, RGR’s first co-driver at Henderson, went on, “Yeah, we were really hanging it on the line to keep up with Fitts. He is a true champion, but El Chivo was able to keep pace until we hit the “Team Ford Jump” about twice as hard as we should have and broke a steering knuckle. We lost about an hour on the repair, but were able to make most of it up finishing only sixteen minutes behind the leader.”

On the long drive home to Washington State, the crew realized that they had secured the second spot in the points race for 2008. Don “Squirrel” Healy, RGR logistics specialist, said, “Our only goal for our rookie year was to learn enough about desert racing to make a run at the championship in 2009. We never dreamed that our “never quit” policy and enthusiasm would attract the team necessary to end up on the second tallest box for the year. It just seems surreal. We are all just grateful to be chasing our dreams in the company of such a talented group of teammates, competitors, and officials.”

RumbleGoat Racing, LLC, is a grass roots racing team based in Richland, Washington, that races in the Best in the Desert Racing Association’s 7300 stock mini-truck class in a late model Ford Ranger FX4 4x4. The team’s major sponsors are Goodyear Tires, Pasco Auto Wrecking, 4Wheelin’ Plus, and Radio Service Company. RGR currently consists of four team owners and nearly twenty volunteer crewmembers. Plans to expand are currently underway. More information can be found on the team’s website at www.rumblegoatracing.com.

Thank you for your support this year! We've managed to gather an awesome fan base, some of which have turned into crew! 2009 season starts in February in Parker, AZ. It is going to be an awesome season.

That's awsome!!
Good to see you guys finish in with the top dogs!

Also nice to see a good baja/race truck come out of Washington, rather than Cali, Arizon, New Mexico and Texas...

Thank you! We are really excited and still kind of in disbelief of how the season ended.

Also ... we are looking for good hands to come help us. The team has big expansion plans in the works, as well as some big races that are going to take a lot of help. Get a hold of me on our site if you are at all interested in volunteering!!

Don

If I were closer to Tri-cities, I'd be all over helping you, but on a high-schooler's budget, 200+ miles is a bit far to drive...

Sweet deff. PM when it gets closer. we might be able to get a nice az get together at the race. for both suport and crew help if needed.

That would be awesome. You can bet, if you show up, we will probably put you to work!

Really glad to hear it. We would love to hear from you guys more during the season.

Jim, you can bet I'll be around here next year. We are putting together plans for at least one RBV prerunner that we will probably be seeking pointers on .. or at least doing a build thread.

For myself, I may be coming back to the light and sidelining my CJ7 to build an Explorer wheeler/ prerunner.

Thanks again for the support.

Btw, I can't believe TRS is turning 10! I was one of the first members of RRORC and Fordrangers.com before that. Congratulations, you have put a lot of work in supporting the Ranger community!
