Rubberized undercoating on a sub box?

Well, today I was thinkin what would look neat on a sub box to make it look custom. Then I thought, "why not use rubberized undercoating?" is this a good idea, or will the undercoating mess up the wood?

I have a 2x4 I use in my bed to divide it and keep things from sliding around. After I cut the wood I wanted to paint it black to match the liner, but I was out of spray paint and wasn't going to buy some just for that. I did have a few cans of my trusty 3M Pro Grade spray can undercoating. Sprayed it down and it adhered just fine, looks good and I haven't had any problems with it. I know this isn't the best example in the world but I can say it does work on wood. The only concern I have is if it would get tacky baking inside the truck when it's 100º outside....

try the spray in bed liner you get at the parts store look like undercoat but won't get tacky in the heat

A friend of mine and I built a custom sub box for his Silverado and coated it with the rubber stuff. It will turn out pretty cool looking, but the heat will make it soft and will dent and nick if things hit it. As Jay said, it will get slightly tacky, and might attract dust.

go to any parts store and buy the herculiner kit. this holds up great on sub boxes, and is very cheap. under 100 bucks for the whole kit. but you can buy a quart of it for like 40.00

yeah i would use a diy bedliner kit or an aerosol. just leave that bad boy outside for a while to let the fumes evaportate and to let the smell go away.

I did this to my custom speaker box and it looks awesome!! Wish I had some pictures to show you.
