Hi,

Was wondering if anyone knew how many rpm my truck should be turning at 50 mph. Im at 2500 rpm.... thanks

1992 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD 3.0

I has to do with tire size, gear ratioss, uphill, downhill, auto trans or standard. You did not state what you have for add ons.. or is it all stock?

bout 1600 0r 1700 rpm would be the best range....but like he said--it depends on what you're using the truck for!!!!!

1500-1700 would be normal...but your tachometer could be off. When I bought my 83 4x4 Ranger standard trans with the 2.8 V6 I would cruise at 55 mph right at 1700 in California. I lifted it and added 33x12.5 tires and added different gear ratios. It was cruising right at 1800 rpm at 60 mph. I had the speedo re-calibrated. The tac could have been off a bit but you never know. If the motor sounds fine at that speed I would not worry about it. If it sounds like it is revving more than it should you might want to look into it. How is it at idle? Does it sound like it is idling too high?

thats the strange thing. its idling at 600. seems fine. the problem is i just replaced my instrument gauge with one that has a tach and i still have the aftermarket gauge i put in installed. they are both reading the same thing....
