This is a 99 Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT. 3.0L V6 Flex Fuel. I've been debating to myself whether this is the correct rpm this truck should idling at ...... Any answers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks -Tim

Was the truck just started in the last few minutes? That would be a perfectly normal high idle RPM.

(I'm actually looking at purchasing this truck) I don't know. But judging by the engine temp and what I know about the seller, I would say no. (Thanks for the reply!!!)

Good point. Assuming the engine temp gauge is somewhat accurate, that does look odd.

lower the price

Is the check engine light functional?
It should be in CHECK ENGINE mode if somethings broke bad.
Test the check engine light by disconnecting something, then starting it up.
(In case someone's trying to unload a bad truck)

Tell him/her to lower the price by 500 and call you when ready to sell.

Here is a thread..

....yeah. I would think that even at start up it should be below 1000. What does your's run around?

He say it will pass inspection (sketchy though because inspection ran out as of october). Thanks for the thread, that answered a lot of questions. Any other comments more than welcome. Thanks!

Mine will idle at 1200-1500 when I first start it for maybe a second or two (when warm), then drop down to around 900.

That's exactly what I thought should be happening, and (most likely) if he did start it up the some sensor lights would come on and go off by the time the rpm's drop back off.

Yep. Since the only things on in the picture are the seat belt warning and brake its been on for a few seconds atleast (unless bulbs are burnt out or have been removed).

thats about what my truck runs at, maybe a little less, but that egine isn't warmed up all the way. i'd say it's fine. never a bad call not to but it though:icon_thumby: thumbs up to the money saver

Are you sure the gauge is correct? Looks likr that cluster has been taken apart to change the color...
Hook up another tach to check the idle.

It has, but i doubt that an aftermarket gauge panel would read wrong. I mean, it's obviously ment for this ranger. (This isn't mine, I'm just thinking about buying it.) But who knows, I just wanted to know what you guys thought.

I'm still not sure, everything seems sketchy. He says, mechanically, the truck is perfect. I found where he posted on a forum looking for a bumber and brackets because he was in a fender bender (hard hit? don't know, he says otherwise), and in the ad he lists 5 tires yet when I talked to him he tells me one is spare only because some random guy slashed it... But on the other hand, for a 99 it has very low miles, a ton of work put into it (12K?), and it's just what I've been looking for. He says 8000 obo, so i'm VERY undesided, and I have yet to see the truck in person.

Oh well.

Thanks -Tim

Way too much money for a 10 year old truck. Kellly BB is half that, the following is for private seller:

Condition Value

Excellent
$4,230

Good
$3,880

Fair
$3,455
