My 1998 for Ranger 3.0 4x4 is running rough. No power and nearly dies during exceloration........I thought perhaps it was the fuel injectors or the fuel pump. I've owned this truck since it was new and it has been well kept up. I have run a lot of fuel system and fuel injector cleaner through it, high octaine gas........nothing seems to help.

It has had a history of O2 sensors going out of it.....could that be the problem again? It never ran like this before when it went out.

The oil pressure gauge reads normal........not burning or leaking oil that I can tell........

Does my truck have a DLC? I have access to a good diagonisic reader? I have looked for the connector under the dash and under the hood and I can't seem to find it.

Any help would be appreciated............

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

get a good ole haynes or chilton manual and find it, then take it to autozoo or someplace and have them look for a code. if none are found i would check the condition of the ignition components and/or plugs and have the cylinder compression checked. how many miles are we talking here?

Thanks for the post. I was going to start looking for a Chiltons manual, I just haven't gotten one yet. I'm not much of a mechanic, I am really just trying to find a place to start trouble shooting.

There are 107,xxx miles on it now. I've owned it since it was new, kept it pretty well maintained...........

Thanks,

Jeff

shouldnt be engine wear then, my trk did the same thing but mine is eec4 and my plug wires/cap, rotor assembly and coil almost corroded in half, and this happened at 275k miles. you may want to have somebody check the stick coils on yours (i think yours has the coil in cap setup, if not id have them check the coil) and make sure your firing on all cylinders. easiest way to do this is let the trk idle and pull plug wires and see if the idle changes, if it changes then the cylinder is fine, reconnect it. then go to the next one. if you pull a plug wire and the idle does not change, then you have a dead cylinder, change the stick coil (or coil pack assembly) and spark plugs and see if that helps. b4 warned: you may shock the piss out of yourself doing it by hand, i recommend doing this w/ a pair of rubber insulated pliers and gloves on. you can also just take it to a mechanic and have them learn the lesson of gloves and pliers while you sit back and laugh.
