can any of you rec. a decent safari style roof rack/basket for an 88 standard cab.. and the mounting hardware to go along with it.?

I've only ever seen them on Import quad cabs, it is a truck after all..

I made that one, but Con-Ferr makes some really nice ones (albeit a bit expensive though, and is what drove me to make my own instead). Your '88 has exposed rain gutters that should make mounting it relatively simple (for mine I made brackets that attach it to the rollbar).
Do keep in mind a rack like that (even empty) will steal about 1-2 MPG though, if you drive on the freeway a lot.
