IIRC, Truck blocks were roller-ready, but never came with roller cams from the factory.
The pickups and van 5.0's got roller cams in 1992 with the same small roller the Vic/Town car/Marquis 5.0 used. Then in 1994 they got a much improved roller (this one was called the F4TE cam) that's just a step below the HO cam on the intake side. This cam was later used in the 96-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0. Prior to 1992, the pickup/van 5.0 had a roller block but with a flat tappet cam starting in 1986.thanks badd, wasn't sure if you'd want to post?Wrong info...........................The pickups and van 5.0's got roller cams in 1992 with the same small roller the Vic/Town car/Marquis 5.0 used. My mistake. I often forget that the 5.0 lived on outside of mustangs well into the 90's and beyond. In Canada the Mercury brand was killed by Ford a long time ago. We never got the Mountaineer nor any 5.0 exploders for that matter. I remember going to local yards asking if they had 5.0 explorers and they looked at me as if they were saying "what have you been smoking...and where can I get some of that?"so your sayin' 86 is roller ready, but to 93 it was flat tappet or a reduced base circle/ crappy roller lifter(or just refering to low lift)?
