so im putting a D35 in my b2 and It has a 3:45 gear in it right now, but the D35 pig has 3:55 gears. so my question is where can I find 3:45 gears for the D35? or will I have to regear the rear end to match the D35 instead.

any lift on the b2? 345 gears i assume not. explorer axles can be a bit too wide for stock b2...but a worthy upgrade.

355 rear end from a ranger....though that ratio in a older narrow 7.5 is hard or likely impossible to find..

the explorer is quite a bit wider then the rangers. but real common in 355.

the perch spacing and differential offset is a bit different(slight)with the rangers but i interchange them with no worries. sometimes some shims ect... depends on what style rear driveshaft you have. a b2 axle in a later ext cab will have rub on the stock gas tank skid in certain situations from the drive shaft...nothing a sawzall trim cant fix....

i ran into an explorer...92 with 410 gears when i went and picked up an axle for my sisters f-150....it was shitty drums but i looked at it anyway...4l10 on the tag......and the front was mostly unmolested...so a d35/8.8 410 matched set for 175 bux was looking good...but after i looked at it i realized it was a smoothie hybrid d35. i did not realize explorers could have a hybrid axle. according to t.a.s. that vehicle was bone stock as it was a family members.. i popped the auto hub and rotor off and spindle...and it was indeed 23 splines on the inside.. should have bought it anyway. not worth the time for the rotten beams though. i had to get the axle in my sisters truck swapped and get back to work before they knew i was gone:D

3.55 is only an option in an 8.8 so you're stuck... but on that note 3.55 is only about 3% lower than 3.45, as long as you only engage the T case in low traction conditions it shouldn't be much of an issue, normally when running mismatched gears you want the other way so the front pulls instead of the rear pushing...

well that's no fun guys. I was hoping just to keep the axle ratio about the same. so I guess ill have to re gear both axles.... dang it that costs money... and no its not lifted yet.

A Ranger rear with 3.55 shouldn't be that hard to find.

Yeah, changing to at least a Ranger 8.8 is going to be needed to get 3.55, 3.45 is only a 7.5 thing

well at this point im just trying to find what ratios that I can put in both axles. im not trying to swap both axles this was supposed just be a quick swap and regear. :annoyed:

3.73 is offered in both axles and should be the easiest to find

Changing the rear axle should be a quick swap as well. Probably less than regearing, besides, I think you may be swapping to an 8.8 anyways to get into a 3.55 ratio.

well ill be doing something not sure exactly what yet but ill keep looking around and see what I can find

got to looking on the craigslist to see whats out there and found a 8.8 out of a 98 exploder with a 3.73 gear dude wants 300 for it. im just not sure if its gonna be too wide.
also can I grab the gear set out of a f150 8.8 and use it in a rbv 8.8?

Yes, all 8.8 gears are interchangeable, I don't think there's a carrier break or anything

whats your timeline?

thats way too much for used shit.

I have a whole D35 pig with 3.73 gears and the ring a pinion for an 8.8 in 3.73 gears in my garage. if you want them let me know we can work out a deal! you'd only need to regear the rearend then!

well initalially I was looking for a 3.45 gear for the d35 pig. cause I wanted to keep the 7.5 for right now and still get good highway miles. The intented use of this rig is for long distance fishing trips up into PA mountains.

now I do intend on running 31s at some point and im thinking that this slightly lower raito will help the old 2.9 get moving.

but I do have a guy willing to sell me his 3.73 gears out of a d35 he pulled for 60$ I found him in another forum whilst googling. but if he falls through 94 sport expect a message from me.

as for a time frame I need to get this done asap cause I need to build another heat source for my garage. and winter is coming.

now the price of this 8.8 is too high I agree but ill see if I can talk him down some because he is south of Pittsburgh and that's a couple hr drive for me. I did find another one but it looks south of Columbus and that's a few hrs from me too.

One last thing: the main reason that I need to get this done and out of the way is so that I can get to work on finding a ranger to build for the 20th anniversary trip.
