So I know the rim questions have been beat to death (along with the tire questions), but despite poking about the forum in my free time and spending time making funny faces at the trucks while holding a tape measure.... I still have questions....
I guess I'll start with the easy one, dad's 2000 Ranger 4x4. He's looking to get new rims for it and leaning towards cranking the T-bars and running 33x12.5x15 tires and says he wants to run a 15x10 rim. The only thing is, neither of us are sure as to whether that tire/rim combo will cause the edge of the tread to stick out past the factory fender trim. Aftermarket flares are not in the cards and tires are not allowed to stick out past the fenders here (the truck attracts enough attention as it is). So can anyone shed some light on this issue?
Now... on to my choptop.... As it sits (for the moment), it has some old bias ply tires that roughly equate to a 33x12.5x15 mounted on 15x8 rims. I'm not a fan of the rims (white spoke) and since only one tire is trashed, I don't really want to throw the tires away just yet. I'm upping to 35" tires (35x12.5x15) and swapping my front axle out for a D-35, so it's time to think about new rims, but my problem has a couple parts....
Like the Ranger, I need to know how 15x10 rims are going to fit in relation to the fenders. I have no real qualms about going with 15x8 if I have to, but if the 15x10 will work, I'm leaning in that direction (unless someone can talk me out of it).
I also need to know what center bore I should be looking at. Seems the write up in the tech pages says it's important, but doesn't specify a size. The D-35 I'm going to be using is from a 93 Explorer.
And lastly, I keep waffling on what flavor of rim to go with (steel or alloy). The "soft 8s" that everyone and their brother seem to go with just don't tickle my fancy, I want something that isn't ridiculously common and suits the truck, I'm just not sold on what design or type of rim. I'm not overly worried about running alloys on it, the truck will see a good bit of street use and only mild off-roading (I have no desire to smash up a straight and nearly rust-free body - I'm building something else more suitable for that purpose). Please keep in mind that the color of the truck may or may not change... right now it's a blue camo pattern, but I haven't decided if it will stay or if it will be shot a solid dark blue metallic - I'd like my rim choice to look good either way.
As far as what kind of rims are on the table....
