I am considering a 2/2 drop for my 2009 standard cab. I am thinking of flipping the rear shackles, going with 2" front springs (probably DJM), and lowered shocks all around. I live in SE Michigan and drive daily in Detroit for work...which means I drive on some of the worst roads in the nation:annoyed:

First, which lowered shocks give a decent ride? And does a mild lowering like this really hurt the ride quality? The stock front springs are so soft that I think that slightly stiffer springs would actually improve the ride.

Oh, and one other question; is there enough adjustment in the front suspension for aligning with a 2" drop, or will I need to get different adjusting hardware (not sure if it uses bushings, eccentric bolts, shims, etc. I have not really looked into it yet)?

your not gonna get factory aligned with out eccentrics, but you could run the truck with the camber esp if you like the twistys. drop shocks arent needed id run stocks since there so new. new front springs will have a slightly higher rate. flipping the shackle should improve ride if anything.

I wouldn't worry about the ride quality. I have a lowered Ford Focus which is lowered ~1.5", and it rides just fine. You get used to it...and I live in Michigan too. I have 3 friends with SLAMMED Focus' over in the downriver area, and they all daily drive their cars.

Here's one of their cars.

I lowered my '87 2WD 3"/5".....I cut 1" off the rubber frame bumpers to get more travel out of the suspension after lowering the truck...rides as smooth as can be.....but on ROUGH potholes , it bottoms out.

2" should not be a problem on a late model truck.

DJM 2" drop coils would be the way to go on the front, you could also do the Belltech 3" coil. DJM also makes a 3" rear flip kit as well. As for shocks I would highly recommend the Doetsch Nitro Slammers. I sell tons of them to static drop and bagged truck owners.

I did a 2/4 drop - cut springs and flip and I can't really tell a difference. I did trim my bumpstops like was stated above though.

Did a 3/5 drop on the '89...trimmed 1" off the rubber bumpers...

rides great on good roads....

bottoms out on potholes though.........

installed adjustable air shocks on all 4 wheels---rides like a Lincoln....but still bottoms out on potholes......
