I have a 1995 Ranger 4x4 5speed, and i was driving home today, and i went to shift from 1st to 2nd and as i had the clutch in (neutral basicly) the rpm's were stuck at 3 grand, so i did'nt shift into 2 and kept it in neutral until the revs dropped...they did'nt it just stuck there pegged at 3,000. So i pulled over and as i came to a complete stop the revs dropped down to 800 (idle) It still does it now though, luckly i did'nt have far to go. If i sit still though and rev it, it acts normally, it does;nt stick, it only happens when im driving. And it really likes that 3 grand, it will just sit there until i come to a complete stop.:dunno: Whats going on??

I am having the same problems, I read on a different forum that it is the IAC, idle air control. They said to clean that and the problem should go away. I will be doing that sometime soon.

Ok....sorry....but where is the IAC sensor, I know where the IAC on my friends 1988 B2, but as for my Ranger..im kinda new to it, so could someone tell me were to find it?

On the throttle body. Pulls in air from before the plate, lets it out behind the plate. Not a sensor, just a little valve.

i also am having the same problem, except it only happens when the heat it on, is this the same problem or not?

yea mine has done that a few times randomly. I just shift it to a lower gear so the rpms go below 2 grand. After a few times of doing that it quits doing it. I find it does it when i wind out a gear past 3 grand.
