i have a 1993 ford ranger 4.0 and when i slightly touch the gas pedal it will rev to 2200 rpm and slowing go down

no when you barely touch the gas peddle and let go. it will go to 2200 rpm and will wait there for 10 sec then very slowly go down

check for vacuum leaks (the 4.0 is known for eating intake mani. gaskets). check and clean your IAC solenoid and ports.

most likely not the MAF.

There's almost no chance it's the MAF.....gas engine RPM is controlled by how much air gets in; the MAF does nothing relative to that but measure the air going in and tell the PCM about it.
