I have a 95 ranger 4.0 4x4 that when cold hesitates going into reverse. Also it bucks when going 30-40 mph.Checked fluid and smells ok and is not bright red but not black either. Not to sure whats going on? Anything I can adjust or is it all computer related? Should I plan on a big spending of money that I don't have this time of year??

Thanks David

I would start by changing the fluid and filter since you mentioned the fluid doesn't look good. Sounds like its already burnt, which isn't a good sign.

I forgot to mention that the fluid and filter was replaced about 2 mths ago. Does not smell burnt. I put some lucas tranny fluid in it the other day thats supposed to help with slipping but did not help.
