Fix it till its broke!
Anyway to tap into that wire from under the hood in a third gen for a relay? Can't seem to find anything atm. I would like to run only the power wire to the back so the relay doesn't get wet.

Are you talking about running extra back up lights? Or just making your reverse lights come on when you want them too. Your question is a bit confusing, Bro.

additional auxiliary lights. I can run them properly but would obviously like to keep the relay nice and dry, so therefore I'm looking to be able to tap into the reverse lights to activate the relay only. My issue is finding a way to tap into it under the hood so I don't have to run miles of wire under the truck :annoyed: if this is possible I would only run the power wire from the relay to the lights and ground them nearby...easy...assuming I can keep the rest of the wiring under the hood.

As I understand it, it is the pink/black wire but I'm wondering if it is accessible from under the hood instead of from inside the cab/outside the trans/ or actual reverse lights.

Ok, the wire you need to access is between the trans and rear bumper. A powered wire runs from the power block to a switch on the trans. When placed in reverse the switch closes and applies power to another wire that runs from the switch to the lights, and then a 3rd wire grounds the lights.

You want the second wire.

Thanks that's what I was afraid of, any good places to stash a relay out of the elements? Don't want it shorting out ya know lol. I'd rather not pay extra for a Water proof relay. Or maybe Jb weld the seams on the relay?

Ok, I see now what you are doing now. I have 2 sets of rear lights. I ran my wires tucked up into the frame area and ran them into the cab and tied in to the fuze block. I have a rocker switch to turn the 100 watt lights off and on. I have been in some 3 1/2 ft water and never had any issues. Are you planning on going really deep in water?

Here is my 100 watt 'Bling' rear lights mounted under the bumper and 50 watt lights mounted on the bumper (amber lens). Got them on Ebay years back. Good lights for really dark places. The amber lights are remote controlled. I can turn them on with the remote when we are out in the dark hiking and see where the truck is from about 75 ft away. The lights help light up the background when you are out in the wilderness camping or boating and need to see behind you backing up when putting in the boat of taking it out.

I guess the fuse block will be my best option to keep the relay under the hood and close to the battery, while only running the power to the rear. I have one aftermarket light from a set of two so I'm gonna use it as a back up light. It'll probably look retarded with only one light but with the wiring done I can always add a pair later. Plus it's still functional and beats the suck lights. I live out I the sticks so any extra light helps. Might add a switch later, maybe when I add the ohc.

Pretty much what I had in mind, but at the moment I have the round lights you have and I was gonna mount them the same way only with one light since the other is broken. Like I said one is better then nothing. I like the remote idea but I don't have one so that's a no go at the moment. Yea I do a lot of stuff off the main roads and I'm all for additional lighting. Still need to mount my four floods on my headache rack but trying to figure out how to run the wiring and keep it clean. I already have some driving lights that work great from harbor freight. Can't beat the price and I'm happy with them.

PS I got all the stuff for free from cleaning up my backyard lol. So free is good even if it looks kinda retarded. At first I thought about tucking them under but that would defeat the purpose.

Free is always good, Bro...lol

What you want to do is still doable. You just need more wire.

oh yea I figured that much, I was Just trying to keep it as clean as possible and most importantly keep the relay out of the elements and close to the battery and inline fuse.

I'll probably try to tap into the fuse block then and do it that way :)

I fail to see what physical distance from the battery would affect.

One i know enough to keep the fused portion close to the battery :icon_thumby:but as far as the relay I just like keeping things neat for when something goes wrong. Plus like i said i don't want mud, water, gunk all up in my relay if I mount it somewhere on the frame or bumper nearer to the light itself or tranny. :icon_welder:
