My reverse lights are stuck on in my Ranger. They stay on anytime the lights are on, and turn off with the headlights. Any ideas how to make them work properly?
Thanks
Beef

I would check the wiring around the tail lights. possibly some wires are touching something they aren't supposed to touch

they turn off with the head lights or the running lights? sounds like you got some wires crossed or maybe the reverse switch is bad. not likely on the switch.

somebody put the wrong light sockets in the wrong housings??

:agree:

its probably a mixed up light socket, if not you got some wires crossed. good luck

Chris

hopefully its just some wires crossed cuz nobody has screwed with the lights. Guess ill go look at it and let you know my results

i cant find any wires crossed or blown fuses. The only thing i can think of is the reverse switch.(like Metalmacguyver Said) Could that be causing it????

if that were the case, it seems like the backup lights would be on any time the key is on, not any time the headlights are on.

The headlights and reverse lights are not even on the same circuit. The reverse lights come off the fuse panel, go into the backup lamp switch if manual, or to the backup/neutral safety switch if an automatic. This then causes the lights to illuminate.

Your sure no one played a joke and switched your bulb sockets?

Now that I got to thinking, if you had an open ground that was only open when the headlight switch was turned on it would cause this.

i know for sure that the bulbs are in the right socket because i checked them myself. the reverse lights come on with the marker lights and stay on with the headlights. the only thing that has changed was shortly before this started happening i hit a telephone pole with the drivers side front bumper. it cracked the turn signal but it didnt start acting up like this immediatly after. Think that could have an effect on this??
