I Have a 2005 Ford Ranger xlt 4.0 V6. With a 5 Speed Auto Transmission. When I select Reverse the Transmission Seems Slow to Engage. Has Anyone Else Had this Problem? Or is it Normal for this type of Truck? Transmission Shifts Fine in all other Gears and No Flashing Lights.

normal in Fords for slow engadge of reverse ... little tip dont step on the gas littler then normal when just engadging I done that and a big clunck was heard but shes ok.... but for the engadgement ive had that prob since my 1985 150..so no worries its a built in problem

Maybe this will help its a common problem...shiftkits address this problem as well.

where did this diagram come from me and my buddy both have this problem ona 2001 and a 98 ranger

haha thats a for technical service bullitin (TSB) thats how we fix stuff like that. ford sends out tsb's for all sorts of stuff that is commen problems. the
5r55 also has problems with the solenoid pack for delayed forward and reverse problems. also harsh engagements. but ive only sen that on explorers.

Hey, not to threadjack, but now that a picture of a valve body has been brought up, I have a question. I have the splendid A4LD in my 92 Ranger. The tranny doesn't like to shift from first to second, unless I rev the motor up to about 3K, drop it back down to an idle, and then slowly give it gas. Then it will shift to second. The tranny was just rebuilt about 8,000 miles ago with a new shift kit. I've replaced the vacuum modulator, and put some of that Lucas Tranny Fix Oil in it to no avail. So could there be a plugged port in the valve body or something? I don't know where else to turn.
