rev limiter on a 3.0??

And watch your driveshaft blow up!

I'd be more afraid of EVERYTHING else driving a Ranger (or most any truck) at or above 90 mph... The ONLY vehicle I have actually felt comfortable above 90mph in was my Camaro (on a closed course it's been the 150+)... My Camaro also has large 4 wheel disc brakes, much larger than my Ranger... It is much more aerodymanic (think airplane vs brick)...It also has much tighter more controllable steering system... Trucks were not meant to drive above 90mph, that's why they are limited at that speed... Please don't be stupid...

Tell that to the NASCAR Truck Series!!! Anyway, there's very little more interesting than taking your RBV down the San Joaquin Valley on the I-5 in California, looking in your rear view mirror at a CHiPs 5.0 Mustang Interceptor pulling right up on your bumper and then you looking down at your 85mph speedometer and seeing the needle to the LEFT of that 85mph mark. The only thing more interesting than that was watching that aforementioned 5.0 Mustang Interceptor whip around you and pass you, and the CHiPs officer WAVE at you as he drives by like you were sitting still.
Actually, there is one more thing more interesting than that. Living in San Francisco for four months and never driving over the Golden Gate Bridge, but still managing to go UNDER it on one occasion. Now THAT is an accomplishment!:icon_hornsup:

On straight flat highways mine sat at 149kph (governor was at 150) on cruise control. And it drove me nuts that i could not get past that, even tho my truck is completely capable. It was completely stable, my wheels are all well balanced and aligned and all the steering and suspension is in good shape so when i got my flashpaq i told it i had z rated tires and it removed it! Not like i want to be doing 200k or anything but 160-170 isn't pushing it!

Seriously? I don't think Ford would have put the limiter there if your truck was capable of going that fast safely and reliably... I just hope to god you never have to make a panic stop from that kind of speed... I have seen tires disassemble themselves pretty efficiently above their rated speeds also (not in person, BTW)...

i agree w/ the limiter being on there, ive had mine rediculously fast (limiting out in 3rd) and when i hit 70 the front end shakes, when i hit 75 it goes away but the trk is so light you bump the wheel your going to flip. another thing, if you think you can go really fast, take the wheel when doing 65 and move it left and right and see how spongy your suspension really is, that and panic braking at 80 is enuff to smoke the factory rotors (ive done it) 100 or so will really fk things up. personally my project vehicle will go well over the 100 mark, but trust me there will be a LOT of suspension and brake work done to her. when i get thru w/ it it might as well be a ranger body on a mustang chassis w/ what all i want to do to it, but being that its 4wd it will be interesting to say the least.

Its not like i do this whenever i can. We are on the edge of the Praries, highways here are so flat and straight, and you can see for miles in every direction and wouldnt need to suddenly brake for any reason. When i get a nice open stretch of good pavement I'll walk on it for a minute or two and it has no problems, no shakes or vibrations, good traction and does not pull in either direction. Its a newer truck, in excellent mechanical condition, not lifted, no mud tires, and the ranchos make the truck handle way better and much less body sway than the factory shocks. If i didn't feel safe i wouldn't do it. But i do appreciate the concern. There are all of ppl who try to go way too fast in vehicles that cant handle it, who cant drive very well to begin with! I do collision repair on bmw's and benz's for a living. I see the aftermath every day.

at least you recognize the risks etc, my trk wasnt in the greatest of shape but i took it to the top on occasion when she ran a lil shitty to blow her out. i drag raced a few cars and drifted a lil a few yrs back, plus i used to be volunteer fire dept, aftermath it def is when things go wrong.

uRE:RE:

who compares a camaro to a ranger?

are you guys serious?

only a redneck would brag about a camaro in a ranger thread.

btw i have been driving over 85 every day since 1994.

He's not bragging, he's comparing. And it doesn't make him a redneck. Also, doing 85 in a pick up truck isn't the smartest thing to do.

i dont think four wheeling in a ranger is the safest thing.

but again, that is my opinion. :thefinger:

my lighting goes well over 85. :icon_confused:

i have a 2004 ranger edge 3.0 and i had put a custom exhaust on it and when i rev it up for my buddies my limiter kicks in at 3000 rpm. ive looked into finding out how to bypass it, but it doesnt really seem like anyone has any info on it.

I can't get my 02 3.0L Edge past about 3200 in neutral or in gear, but I don't think it's the rev limiter unless they cut out REAL hard. It's a really odd problem I've been trying to solve for over a year.

Can't get over about 78mph on the freeway because of it.

Thats odd I have gotten my '94 to 90+ without to much trouble..
