what kind of fabric should I use?

I got some seats out of a camaro, and they weren't taken care of like my current ranger seats were.

I need a good, durable, black (preferably) material to do this with.

do you know how to sew?

personally, id just get some replacement covers on ebay.

i have a neighbor who also works at my school as the clothing/sewing teacher and has offered to take a look at them.... she thinks she would be able to do it.

i suppose there is no guarantee, but I want to know what I should/could use in advance.

+1 on the denim(jean material), but get it from a fabric store and not Walmart if you want it to last more then 2 years.

hm... idk it's just not the look i was looking for, unless anybody has pictures.

I was hoping for something that seemed more like car interior fabric...

You can get cloth or vinyl OEM-reproduction seat covering for the original seats at LMC.

where at?

i went to my parts catalog online and searched for fabric and nothing came up besides truck covers.

Sorry if you thought I meant just fabric by itself. There's pre-made replacement seat coverings, like the original, on page 96 of the new catalog. Linky:

On my old '84, I've about decided to redo the bench with the cloth covering (was debating keeping vinyl), but go with the new rubber mat on the floor. I just want one of my trucks, well, to look like an old truck on the inside. Now, I just have to save up the money for the new interior.

lol WAYYYY more than i was looking to spend... sorry $400 is out of my budget by a long shot.

I hear you, man, and do understand.

At least for a plain old bench seat I'm looking at only $220 for the cloth covering. But the way I'm looking at it, if I spend the bucks to restore the interior, it's good for another 25 years, and by then I'll be too damn old to drive anyway.

Sorry that it wasn't what you were looking for, and good luck on finding something that'll work.

Black denim, harder to find and not always as lasting as blue, but looks good.

Depending on what year your Camaro seats are, you can get new upholstery at www.hawksthirdgenparts.com. They give a price for new premade upholstery at $399 for the front and rear, but I haved talked with them in the past about front seat upholstery only for my Trans Am. I think they quoted me $250 for them. That's factory styled cloth too.

i could always try to find denim and use the duplicolor fabric/vinyl dye on it, right? idk about denim though... is it soft or does it really feel like you're sitting on jeans?
