Maybe some white collar asshole might read our thread here and bring back Made IN USA quality parts!!!!

Had to get all the parts to redo the front brakes on my car today. Usual stuff, Set of pads, 2 new seals for the calipers and 2 new rubber connecting hoses. Things were going along good on one side of the car. Everything buttoned down nice without any problems.

on the second side the caliper went together nicely, however, i tried and tried to get the hose screwed into the caliper... it would not go into the threads. After taking the hose out I used my finger nail to find the groove to see if the starting thread was a bit off and i might have needed to tap an die the starting thread.... nope there was NO starting groove, just round and round circles with no starting spots.

This is strange, so after looking at the boxes I was pissed off to find that this one was made in China and the other was made in USA.

I called the parts store to let them know i was bringing back the China crap and to order one made in USA from their stock house....

here are the pics of this.... on one of them can you tell me what is now missing from the China box?

As for cheap stuff from China...ever shopped at Canadian Tire? I have yet to find anything in their stores that is not MIC...

I bought a brake cylinder from them recently...made in China...and I went to a NAPA store just after that and out of curiosity asked them how much for their brake cylinder...less than half the price...and so I returned the one to CTC and bought the one from NAPA...guess what! The one from NAPA was made in the USA...

Weird!

Some stuff you have to watch. Since USA companies don't have a hope of competing with China on labor costs they can take costs out of other things to try to stay in the same league.

Other parts (like brakes and clutches) they like to make over there so they can use asbestos without as many (if any) restrictions.

I got new switch covers for my house, I was there trying and trying to get one screw to start into the box and it just would not go. The darn thing squirted out and I spent 5 minutes finding it. Look at it closer and there is no threads on the screw. Made in China.

I also have a made in USA 90* grease zerk with no threads on it too, small stuff like that is easy to slip through the cracks.

I hear ya OP. Been going through hell trying to get my kid's 2000 Ranger's 4X4 to work. Long story but this sums it up: Bad transfer case motor out of the box MIC. Bad rear ABS sensor out of the box MIC. Bad set of AVM Rugged Ridge hubs out of the box made in Brazil. All in one weekend! I guess it's Motorcraft or nothing for me from now on. Assuming those parts are US made.

Motorcraft doesn't MAKE any parts... They buy from contract suppliers. Whoever makes it to fill that current spec at the lowest price gets the contract. Brazil, Singapore, China, Japan, and USA made.....

Ever wonder why all those parts look the same but are sold under different names?

Had this problem with balljoints lately. I ordered OEM Spicer balljoints for my D44. Spicer balljoints are the only ones that I know of that have tight preloads on them right out of the box. Well I get my spicers in the mail, and I can move the ball joint with 1 finger. I flip the damn things over and see TRW stamped in them. Come to find out, everything BUT the housings are made in USA and the housings are made in china or some shit.

Wow, i hear your guy's pain on the MIC crap. one thing that really burned my ass was the price was exactly the same for the 2 hoses. the usa one was better built with the ribbed style hose and the connecters were made with tougher looking fittings, almost brass feel to them. the China ones are made with what feels like cheap alloy steel. My thinking on the nascar logo was that the nascar association pulled the logo off the products because they refused to have their name on shitty products.... this makes more logic to me ... lol

Don't you mean "China Tire"? That store is a waste of realstate to even think you are going to get a good product for a car.... I have heard some bad horror stories from their auto section.... they make more money importing cheap waffle irons than anything else, so why try to compete with real parts stores.... all i will buy from the auto section is oil, light bulbs and belts.

One more. Kid's 2005 Escape. MIC sway bar end links AKA dog bones. Offered two versions at O'Riley's. I took the more expensive style with the grease zerks so I could lube them now and then. You put the zerks on yourself and mine had threads on the zerks but no threads where they screw into the end links. Useless.

ive seen this numerous times on ball joints and tie rod ends, just cram that sucker in there.

on a side note, ive got a laptop power supply i bought about 3-4 months ago that im sure was made in china. just noticed a few minutes ago that the 120v section of the cord has the outer insulator as well as all 3 inner insulators broken right behind the plug with all 3 conductors showing. the damn thing just sits here, i never pull on it, never unplug it... oh well, i guess for $7 shipped i shouldnt be surprised.

Ya better get used it Made in somewhere other than here. My phone rings at work. Be it a shop or walk in customer I'll price em the good stuff and the cheap stuff. You'd be shocked how many go for price VS quality.

The sad part is the good stuff is going the way of the cheap stuff. A lot of boxes on my shelf that are top rated companies are made there not here now.

You can argue until the end of time but the USA caused this. We want top dollar salaries, cheap prices and give it to me NOW attitude. The government, unions and corporations all have had a hand in this.

What needs to be done is elect leaders that will repeal the free trade agreement because it's been a one way street since it's inception.

Course with the apathy in this country today it will not get better so just make the best of it.

China imposes very substantial import duties on most products sent there. We need to impose similar duties here and protect our at home industry. I won't go into their brash manipulation of currency to keep prices artificially low... That would take hours to explain.

You must have a napa owned by a different company, the parts at the napas by me are at least 20% more expensive and the stuff is still made in china.

I've heard the argument many times about the tariffs, and I certainly don't disagree, but, so the tariffs on the imported crap are brought up to par with each other. The only thing that will happen is LongDong and Chingdo will charge more for their crap. Manufacturing in North America has gone for good. So, how many years would it take for North America, U.S. and Canada that is, to rebuild the factories that are no more?



Oh, for some reason, that end of the world doesn't have many NasCar fans. As soon as they realize NasCar is a big money maker, they'll own that as well.
A while back, "I heard", that mallwart was initially going to import chineese trucks to haul they're asian made crap, then later on, once they slip some bucks into a senators coffer, the drivers themselves will be here.
