returned CHINA CRAP stories & pics

Yeah, products and packaging almost always come from 2 different places.... Our belts, hoses, tensioners are all made by Gates, on the premium side.....I'm not sure on the Econo side..... Gates makes stuff everywhere...USA, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, etc. But being Gates....they have a long history of being a pretty quality part. I don't frown too much when I see a Premium name, that's not built in the USA, because for the most part, it's made to spec.... Now, China stuff, with a China name, that's boxed in 20 different boxes under different name......I get a little uneasy about......

You're probably right about all of that. From a consumer's standpoint, I don't necessarily want the most expensive part either. My F-150 puked an alternator (I think, final tests are coming in.) I go onto RockAuto and there are 20+ to choose from. Cheap-ass at < $100 and ones upwards of $350. I just want the one that won't quit on me and have absolutely no tangible idea which one to get. There used to be the day when you bought by brand name - Moog, Timkin etc. and you absolutely knew you were getting a good product. Now they've whored themselves out and are the "Forest Gump" box of chocolates. They are all retarded. You make a lasting company by making a lasting product. Most have sold their souls to quarterly profits.

yeah, I hear ya.....basically...we have NEW Alternators, that are probably made in Mexico, but since it's new, no need to bring the core back..... then we have Lifetime, which includes a Tow reimbursement....if it's an Alternator failure, then we have economy, which I honestly don't think is any different then the lifetime, other then there is no reimbursement, and 18-24 month warranty..... Usually the lifetime will run about 30 bucks or so more.... I always go for the lifetime, if it's not something I plan on parting ways with fairly soon.....and yeah.....I've seen defective right out of the box on all 3!

Most depressing thing I've seen to date:

Found several tools made by "Snap-On". Including trouble lights, small key chain tools. Serious...this is advert of their products...

and right on the items? MADE IN CHINA.

I've got a Snap On cell phone caddy, and a Snap On keychain. Both have shown bad wear and the keychain already fell apart.

Know what you mean with the SnapOn thing. Imagine my disgust when about a year and a half ago I bought a Milwaukee Sawzall that lasted less than 2 days on the job site and when I took it in for warranty the guy at the shop said he had been seeing a lot of them coming in since they started making them in China. I flipped it over and looked on the sticker and sure enough... Made in China...... Same retail price as the old USA made ones were too.
