I am sooooooo tired of having to pay some schlub to replace my hydraulic clutch every couple of years, especially with labor costs so high. I'm considering one of 3 options. Convert to an automatic transmission with floor shift. Mod the transmission to take an external slave cylinder or cable clutch, or give up.

what do you mean? clutch or slaves failing?

cause....that might be a user error.

Yeah, I'm curious as well... So far on my '97 Ranger I've put 110k miles on the clutch I got it with (rig has 255k on it, who knows what's on the clutch) and about 5k miles into me having it I had to put a master cylinder in it but otherwise it just keeps going somehow... On my '90 I rebuilt the trans in '10 and replaced the clutch and slave then then rebuilt the trans again in '24 because of a bearing failure and replaced the clutch again just because I was there but there was nothing wrong with it annoyingly... I've kept it to put in the '97 once it finally dies...

I mean I know it's possible to have crap life out of a clutch, I had one that lasted 10k miles but I was learning offroading at that time and was mean to it...

I went through slave cylinders like candy on my F-150 when I put a Stage 2 or 3 clutch in it. I’d get two years max out of them. Usually the first really cold winter day that I went and started it the seals would pop. I’d keep filling the reservoir and limp it along until warm weather. Drove me nuts. I ended up going to a heavier duty transmission and found a metal cased slave cylinder which greatly slowed the failure rate. I’d prefer an external slave, easier to change, but they don’t seem to exist in anything below the big block motors.

So I feel your pain. But I’d rather replace a slave cylinder in an RBV than a full size truck, those transmissions get bigger and heavier.

I’m 90% sure there is mounting holes on the outside of the M5od for an external slave.

Not sure what other applications it was used in, but might be able to find a factory external salve setup that would drop in.

That would be nice if it was an option to convert
