Rest In Peace Lilly Ranger....

If you were closer I'd spot you the head gasket...I'm sure a couple of your TRS buddies wouldn't mind spotting a couple collared here and there to keep lily alive...I don't mind donating a few, anyone else want to help a fellow trs'er out?

I am not spotting any money until I get back from Vegas.......

but I could have a gasket shipped to your house, after I get back from Vegas ......... as long as you swear on your life you will pay it forward someday.....

A Felpro head gasket set is 49.99 at autozone and a head bolt set is 31.99 and the head gasket by its self is 9.99

Ok so no money at all to fix a ranger, yet she's gonna buy another vehicle instead? Errrrr.... Right

Hmmmm, two jobs and no money...but she pays for those tats on her back?? How much did that tat job cost???

Headgasket on a 4 banger??

That sucker could be done in a few hours, it took me a day to do the headgaskets on my old truck (85 F250 7.3 diesel) and the heads were close to 110lbs apiece.

I've had to swap out whole engines in my yard with an engine hoist and a bottle jack.

You've got it easy.

And I don't see how getting a new car/truck will be cheaper than fixing your junk.

why do people with no money spend money on tats? i want to move to where you live if you can buy a new truck over putting a $50 head gasket in the old one! sounds a little weird to me

Alaska is twice the size of Texas and there is no place to work on a Ranger?

You need a better boyfriend.

Wow! Yall are harsh today! I know where your coming from about the repair job. Sometimes when your constantly fixing something, and as soon as one repair is done, Boom, something else goes. It gets extremely irritating.

However, with a new car comes much higher insurance premiums. You will also have the new car payment for the next 36-48 or 60 months.

Assuming you will buy a car with a $200 payment. That's a month. So now your putting out $2400 a year. That doesn't include the insurance.

If you think of it this way, sometimes it sinks in just how much driving a older vehicle saves in the long run.

As far as credit cards, yeah I have them. I am not ashamed to say I fell for the 0% balance transfer bit back before they stopped doing it. At one time I had a TRUCK on a credit card. In the end, my credit score is in the 740's, I own a home, I have two newer cars and one older one. All but one is paid for. Banks are literally throwing money at me. I have a stack of empty charge cards with limits that total over 1/4 million dollars. Yeah, over $250,000K in available credit. I am 28. Yet I could walk in any bank and be approved for a loan.

Credit cards are not bad, people who don't use them responsible are.

Wow, let's see if we can be a little more critical and judge somebody who we don't know, and don't fully know their situation.

Working two jobs doesn't mean you have lots of extra money laying around. And paying off your purchases on a credit card aren't always possible. Maybe the OP already has a lot of debt. Of the few forums that I frequent, the members here are usually very considerate and even kind! Let's see a little decency, people.

I work two jobs as well. 65+ hours a week. Didn't bother me much until this past month when my son was born, now I hate it.

But, a person's gotta do what they have too to survive!

The head gasket isn't a problem. That's cheap and easy. I've re-used the intake gaskets before, so far no issues. There is almost no excuses here.

However in Alaska they are emissons Nazi's, as bad as California. She's going to need a OEM cat and downpipe on that. That'll run her at least $250, if not more due to the Alaska factor. Now she could fudge something in and try to replace it before emissions time rolls around, which would at least make it driveable. Just hope you don't get caught.

I know of people who had aftermarket exhausts on their Jeeps, but saved the original equipment. Every time inspection rolled around, the stock stuff went back on. Seems kind of a pain, but nothing ever got a chance to seize up.

From what I have seen of it on TV most of is less than desirable for fixing vehicles though. It is still probably a tad on the cool side up there as well.

On the flipside it is kind of fun to get a different ride once in awhile too.

As they age though, they do become a lot more maintenance intensive and for a DD you have to be able to depend on it.
