The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) monitors the air pressure of all 4 road tires. The wheel-mounted tire pressure sensors transmit via radio frequency signals, to the SJB. TPMS functionality is integral to the SJB. These transmissions are sent approximately every 60 seconds when the vehicle speed exceeds 32 km/h (20 mph). The TPMS function compares each tire pressure sensor transmission against a low-pressure limit. If it has been determined that the tire pressure has fallen below this limit, the SJB communicates this on the vehicle communication bus to the Instrument Cluster (IC). The IC then illuminates the TPMS indicator and displays the appropriate message(s) in the message center (if equipped).
To reset the Tire inflation Light located in the instrument cluster of a Ranger. I purchased from FORD a Tire Pressure Learning Tool part # 8C2T-1A203-AB for $27.00.
The procedure for learning is as Follows.
Before you start, make sure your tires have the proper amount of air.
To get the Sensors in the learning mode. Just follow this on/off key sequence.
1. Start with the key in off position Turn the key to on position (not start) and turn it to the off position.
2. Turn the key to on position (not start) turn it to the off position.
3. Turn the key to on position (not start) and press and release brake pedal and turn key to off position.
4. Turn the key to on position (not start) and turn key to off position..
5. Turn the key to on position (not start) turn to off position.
6.Turn the key to on position (not start) and leave in on position. Horn will chirp once. Take your Learning tool and hold it 180 degrees to the valve stem on LF wheel and point the sensor to the inside of the rim and press and release the button. In approx. 5 seconds the sensor resets, the horn will chirp and will notify you to train the next sensor the RF wheel.
1. Do the same to the RR and the LR wheels.
2. If the Training is not successful, the horn will chirp twice and you must repeat the training process.
That's it! Takes less than 2 minutes to do the entire process.
This tool is a must for even tire rotation.I have also seen that if you run winter rims you can take the sensors off your summer rims and run a couple of wraps of duc tape to hold them in instead of the straps.Leaving your straps on the summer rims .
