Hey guys,

Think I know the answer but want to make sure before I make a mess. Can I leave the power steering reservoir cap off while bleeding (with engine on - assuming I've already done what I can with the engine off) without making a mess? Or do you need to run the engine for a sec with the cap on, shut it off, top off the reservoir, replace cap, repeat, etc....

Thanks!

I had it off when I did mine and no fluid came out. I had my front end jacked up so there wasn't any load on the system though, so I don't know if that helped out the situation.

I'd do it that-a-way. Jack the front up, go from stop to stop with the engine off to work in as much of the Type F as possible. Then bump the engine. Better yet take out the fuel pump relay or unplug the ignition coil. It's easy for it to run away and it starve the pump of fluid & it start squealing. Too easy.

Great, thanks guys. Yup, I jacked up the front end first last time, but hadn't thought of just bumping the engine... I'll just hit the fuel inertia switch, and crank as much/little as needed.

I hate to open pandora's box here and I know it's been discussed (I've read the threads), but I've seen a lot of conflicting info for '94's on type-F versus dex/merc ATF. Seems to be a change-over year. I have plenty of dex/merc on hand that I was planning on using - anyone see a problem with that?

Thanks again!

TYPE F, that's what ford intended all the seals, hoses, and pump to work with.

K, I'll get some Type F instead. I'd seen that on here a few places, but Haynes says Merc/Dex (can't remember which exactly), and there was no owner's manual when I bought it.

Thanks!

-Bill
