Several months ago I rebuilt the valve body on my 5r44e. Added a shift kit while I was in there and used the "heavy" springs. At first the thing shifted like a beast. Super firm quick shifts and awesome fast downshifts. But after a while it seems the computer just re-adjusts everything and it ends up shifting like stock again. Not bad but just seems like it erases all the benefits of the shift kit.

Anytime I reset the ECM (unhook the battery for a while) it goes back to shifting awesome again for a while... then computer adjusts it back to stock again.

Is there any way to tell the computer to eff off and keep it shifting firmer i.e with a tuner like a SCT? Never messed with tuners so no idea if any work for the 5r44e?

I believe there is a way to shut off the transmission's adaptive strategy using a scan tool.

That is what's messing you up. The computer is programmed to try and achieve a certain shift feel, which it can do by varying the amount of current to the shift solenoids, and how quickly that current is applied.

I used forscan which can delete the learned adaptive strategy. (Same as resetting the ecu with a long battery disconnect.)

Same results... runs like a raped ape for 50 miles then settles back down. I'm wondering if the forscan mods to the module as built data can disable it but I cant find any spreadsheets for the rangers. Looked on the forscan forum and came up with nothing.

So for now I erase it and have fun for a day... and repeat. The difference is extremely noticeable and I guarantee the cleared mode with my shift kit is way better for the trans than when it "adapts" and makes the shifts soft again.

Why would you want it to shift so firmly? You'll just spill more of your chowder.

And we just got you trained to eat it so carefully..

I have Forscan, and the adapter, but nothing new enough to have an adaptive transmission strategy, so I can't play with it and figure out how to shut it off.

I know exactly how to do it with an IDS.

Unfortunately I cant afford ford IDS software... what is it like $1,000 a year license fee? :annoyed:

I can bring an IDS home one weekend.

If you know how to get to the trans adaptive strategy feature on it I'd definitely be willing to trade you a case of beer and some clam chowdah for your effort.

From the toolbox go down to the powertrain option on the menu, and select transmission. In the tab that opens up there should be an option with a title about the trans adapt strategy (not sure of the exact wording, it changes periodically). That selection should give an option to disable it.

Alternatively go into module programming, select programable parameters, PCM, and it should be in there, may be another level of sub-menus about the trans to go into first.

But I'm sure Sno already knows all that.

Have a snap-on solus here, but idk if you really want to drive all the way out here.

I have a launch 431x v+ which I thought was close to a solus and theres no option in it for disabling those features. On my 09 its damn close to what forscan can do. But obviously that's only ford and an 09 has limited access to stuff. I actually think forscan does more on my 2017 ford than my launch can. But if I need to work on any other brand I need my launch.

But its done!!!! My buddy brought home this massive roll around computer thing he had to put in the bed of his truck, it apparently had IDS. He got in and disabled it. Haven't driven the truck far enough to see if it comes back though...

My 5r with my shift kit can shift faster than you with your m5od on your best day times ten.... your foot cant beat a computer.

Darn. How fast do I need to shift?

I think I could give a stock 5r a run for the money. But put a shift kit in there and nope. And an auto never misses a shift.
I don't think I've lost a 200' sand drag in my class unless I've missed a shift. Everyone else runs auto. Of course there's a lot more than shifting involved in winning a race.
