Is this a worthy investement for performance and durability's sake? My truck is a 97 and could use a little tightening. I was wondering how much these parts cost generally and how tricky they are to install, ciao!

Also, a question. My engine tends to slip out of gear every once in a while in what it feels like grabbing a big breath of air. Could I have build up in my intake system or rather, is it caused by an excess of air, via a slight vacuum leak?

I talked to some guys about building my 4.0L and after the conversation, I decided to just go stock. you can put headers, bigger cam, and all that without seeing significant gains. From what I understand, the heads do not flow well.
I rebuilt mine using factory stuff and it runs fine. And, I got out of it fairly cheap (except the gasket kit was $200!!).

Too bad you were given bad advice.

The 4.0L OHV actually responds very well to a simple cam & header upgrade.
Generally in the 40 to 60 RWHP range depending on other modifications.

In my case, my 4.0L has dynoed just shy of 200rwhp & 240 rwtq. with 90% of peak torque from 1700rpm to 4800 rpm.(Dynojet #'s)

To me that's a pretty significant gain, & can be had for under $2500!!:icon_thumby:
