My low pressure service port blew out. I need to replace the reciever drier but one of the connections doesn't display any threading, looks press fit or something(see photo). Anybody replaced one of these? Oh, and there is no schrader valve, its a ball valve, lucky me.

It's not threaded. It's a spring-lock coupler.

Go to Sears, buy these

And then pop the right one on and pull up.

That was fast, thanks bud! :D

I'll check it out. Can't believe you have to replace the whole reciever drier for a lousy 5 dollar part, wish there was an alternative.

Dont sweat it... Its only a $15-20 part.

The newer designs have a thread-in shreader valve that don't do that.

You think I'll need to vacuum the system if I can quick swap the accumulator? Being that it has has a new desiccant bag in the new accumulator. I imagine its not a "best practice" but is it really putting that much neck out??

Yes, you absolutely MUST evacuate the system prior to introducing the refrigerant any time the system has been open to the atmosphere for any amount of time.
Not just moisture, but nitrogen, oxygen, CO2, etc. (IOW, air) are all contaminants that will prevent the system from working properly.

OK, found a parts center that will rent the guages and vacuum pump no charge, just big deposit.

New accumulator is in, system ready for charge.

Did some quick calculations decided to go with 3oz of oil and two cans of freon.

Noticed several flavors of oil, not sure which flavor this 20 year old truck needs?? Recommendations?

Success!

Thanks for the help guys. Ran a 40 minute vacuum, fed it two cans and a 3oz can of oil. Everything went according to plan and I now have rockin' A/C ready for another Phoenix summer. :yahoo:

You guys rock!!! Thanks again! :icon_cheers:
