I wanted something with better fuel economy - so I'm replacing this:

(2003 Ranger FX4 4.0 SOHC, 4.10 L/S)

With this:

(2011 F-150 3.5 L Ecoboost, 3.73, electronic locking, 4x4 offroad)
I had to order the F-150, there weren't any like I wanted anywhere - so the picture is just the image from Ford's build your F-150 site

Cool, is that like the one you ordered?

It is a heck of a engine, rated better in just about anything than the big bad Lariet 6.2 big block and gets about twice the milage to boot.

Yep, I put it together on the F-150 site and took the screenshot of the preview, then went down to the dealer and argued until they ordered one just like it.

Took a LOT of convincing to get them to order the 3.73 with the locking rear end on an XLT, but it finally got done.

And you should see the reaction when I tell people I'm getting a 3.5 liter V-6 in my new F-150 - unless they already know about the ecoboost, they just look at me like I'm nuts

That locking rear would be really nice at times...

thats the twin turbo motor right? DROOL. i watched like a 4 part series on the web of those engines getting the ultimate test and they kept coming back for more

Do they want you to get a 4.10 rear end with the locker instead?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see that is the only other option they offer.

No, they thought the locking diff was only available in the FX4 trim.
The book they were using said it requires the 4X4 Off-Road package, which they thought meant the FX4 trim level. There actually is a 4X4 Off road package, and it includes all of the FX4 hardware and none of the fluff (skid plates, locking diff, 4x4, off road shocks, all terain tires)
Once I convinced them to call Ford's help line, they were able to order the locking 3.73 differential :)

The 4.10 locking diff is only available on the FX4 or SVT Raptor, the 3.73 locking is available on XLT, FX4, Lariat, and King Ranch

Now I just want it to get here already! I ordered it on Feb 8th, no one has any idea when it will show up. They said 6-12 weeks..

Ah, gotcha. Stupid salesmen. No offense to anyone on TRS who is a car salesman.

WOW....:icon_surprised:....the 2003 looks new........!

That fiberglass bed lasts FOREVER :) Picture is over a year old, but it looks exactly the same - other than a new set of Firestone Destination LE tires.

I wish Ford had ORDER TRACKING! I think the dealer does too by now with as much as I've aggravated them.

I'm still amazed by the numbers off that F-150 -
2003 Ranger FX4 - 14 city, 17 highway
207 HP, 238 lb-ft, 4.0 L SOHC V-6
2011 F150 - 15 city, 21 highway
365 HP, 420 lb-ft, 3.5 L Twin-Turbo, Direct Injected, Ti-VCT V-6

The best part is it puts out that 420 lb-ft at 2,500 RPM :D

Anyway the truck is in! Actually, I've had it for a month and been hanging out on F-150 sites too much to remember to come back here and post about it.

Here's a picture

Beautiful truck man. And it gets the same economy as my last Ranger lol which is astounding.

Good choice with the blue paint, I always liked Ford's shade of blue, and I really don;t see that many new Ford's in that color any more.
