replacing lower intake gasket

well it turns out that the previous owner had done this job before me and did a piss poor job of it using the cheapest gaskets available. cork valve cover, havent teared into fuel rail yet, but lower intake gasket was a ford one but it was like the felpro one with no metal or rubber. to top it off there was plates of metal acting as a washer under 2 bolts on the driver valve cover, i dismissed it as a id plate but turns out that the bolt cover holes were rusted out and the old owner put those in there to make it work so now i need a valve cover.

now i have a question. what years and models have valve covers that fit my 93 4.0 with no egr?

I believe that a valve cover from any year of 4.0 OHV will work. I replaced mine with one out of a 98. also should not matter if it has EGR or not. if there is a donor truck w/ out EGR and you are the one pulling them, I would go for that one, as it will make your life easier.

As for RTV, I used the red. it matched nicely with the red felpro valve cover gaskets.

yeah i figured it out thanks. so now i have every thing put back together and running. but i did put a 190 degree thermostat in and noticed that its running warmer than it did with the 198 thermostat. i did bleed the system and cant figure out why its doing this. any explanations?

When I did mine, the original thermostat would barely come off the "C". The new one now runs more in the middle of the gauge. Myguess is that your old one was stuck partially open and now you have one that is working right. If you are still worried get a thermometer and physically test the temp after the thermo opens. You can also put the thermostat in a pan of water on a stove with a thermometer in it and watch it until it opens. Note the temp and if it is within a few degrees of 190the you are good

the old thermostat is only 8 months old well ai will have to try and find a thermometer to double check. thanks
