I replaced the front shocks on my 03 Ranger Edge 4x2 today. I have read different articles about the torque specifications and wanted to make sure I was ok. The Haynes manual said the bottom two bolts should be between 15 and 21 ft lbs. The top stud should be between 30 and 41 ft lbs. I have also read that if the bushing sticks out about 1mm from the washer it is good to go. I am 75% confident I am between the torque ranges but wanted to get some advice whether or not it would be an issue if I wasnt in between those specified ranges. Or does it matter? I also read just to get them as tight as you can. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Put 'em in, make them tight. Not like bolting down a head. You just want them to stay there. I've never used a torque wrench on a shock mounting bolt. If you are unsure if you have it tight enough, run it 100 miles and then check them.

Thanks guys. I usually dont concern myself with factory specifications but when dealing with the suspension or other components that could affect steering and control of my truck, I just wanted to have that warm and fuzzy feeling that I did it correctly.

The new shocks are securely in place and that mysterious vibration in the steering wheel is gone. :icon_cheers:
