Ok its time to for me to replace my catalytic converters in my 1999 3.0 ranger and I have a question. Can I just replace the 2 inline convertors that are after the Y pipe with 1 single catalytic converter?Like a cheap $60 amazon magnaflow?Or will it not be efficient enough and throw a code?Im suprised I have gotten 50,000 miles out of then since runnin a crap load of antifreeze through them from a cracked head. Along with a crap load of gas when it was running rich.

AND NO I DONT WANT TO STRAIGHT PIPE IT it will be for sale in a few years for a newer ranger and dont need a hard time selling it.

Yes it will work just fine, the factory cat has it's 2 stages separated, a single cat combines them. It will pass a sniffer, if your state is picky about visual it may fail.

No testing here just dont want a pesky check engine light on everytime I turn around

Make sure you get a 3 way catalyst.

Thanks for the heads up.I looked at the code on the emissions lable and saw it was a 3 way.The only thing is I havent seen a cheap replacement convertor yet that was labled if it was a 3 way or not

Update: Ordered a magnaflow from local Orilley auto parts and will be in in the morning. And it only cost $56 bucks.Only problem I Have found is the flange on the cat.Seems like the best way of doing it is to cut the cat body 1" from the flange and use a 3"adapter formed into a oval and weld it to it.Damn ford and there flanged cat.Only other option is to take plate steel and make my own flange to bolt up.Hope to have it on with pics tomorrow or sunday

Update: I just got it finished up tonight. It turned out pretty good.Took about 2 hours to do.Which about an hour was welding.I found out the 3" adapter hammered into the oval flange was the way to go.Here are the finished pics before I installed the assembly on the truck.

Well i have been driving it for a few days now and havent ran through enough fuel for a mpg reading but do have a slight difference in power and a big difference in sound. And belive it or not the honeycomb in my old cats looked great. The 1st one was a little sooty but you could still see though it and the 2nd one looked new inside.Oh well at least my replacement cat will be paid for monday when I hit the scrap yard.Current price a piece is around 40 bucks.I will get my 60 bucks back plus some beer money. Hell yeah!

i was just wondering how the sound was now, if it was deeper, more raspy, or louder. im about to have to replace the one on my 94 and was trying to figure out what style cat to go with
