I just put new gears in my axle and filled it with new gear oil. But i recently got a RuffStuff diff cover and want to put it on.

My question is, do i need to drain all the NEW oil out or can i turn the axle so most of it will stay in and only have to refill what ever comes out when i take the old cover off?

thanks in advance

You should change the gear oil a couple thousand miles after a gear change to get the break-in metal shavings out. I would install the new cover then.

this is good advice.

If you haven't yet drained and replaced the oil after your gear swap, wait until it is time to do so to out the bew cover on. That way your not wasting or buying extra gear oil.

If you have already changed the oil for the initial break in of the gears, just get new oil for when you put on the RuffStuff cover, it isn't very expensive an its not something that should be skimped on anyway.
