I have an 83 ranger with a 302 and AOD. Is the C4 the same length as the AOD? What do I need to do to swap the trans. The AOD sucks for performance.

Why do you think the C4 will be different?

Are you trying to correct for having the wrong axle gears?

The previous statement is true, C4 won't be any miracle for performance but it does require less power to spin. You will need a different driveshaft because the C4 is shorter than the AOD. Since the C4 hasn't been made for nearly 25 years or so you are looking at a rebuild as well. Also if you are searching for one be sure to look for one made after 1970 due to revisements such as input shaft, pump and valvebody. If you drive on the highway you might regret losing the overdrive.

The AOD essentially IS a C4 with an overdrive added to it.

There isn't much of a difference in power required to drive it.
It used to be more difficult to find someone to performance built an AOD.

Not a problem with all the AOD mustangs out there.
