Happy New Year all !!

1996 B4000 4.0L auto 4x4 ext 152k miles

My transfer case (1354 electronic f57a-aa)) has been pooping its pants for the last 5 years, I only do about 3k miles a year with it so it wasn't to much of an issue. I bought it with 135K and it has 152K now. i can hear the chain slapping around and the Shift motor crapped out. Well to my Joy, I found a case at my local junk yard from a 1996 B4000 with 34K on it before a tree crushed the cab. I have never replaced a T-case before. Is there a thread with a step by step (I cant seem to find one). And maybe a recomendation for preventative maintanace while I am under there. ex... Universals, gasket, tranny filter. also any special tools required.

Thanks

I have already removed the 2 piece shaft and replaced it with a 1 piece aluminum I scored on Ebay

It's stupid easy man.

Take the drive shafts off the case, unplug the shift motor, pop the 5 bolts out of the case to trans connection, and take it off. I like to have a jack or something under it while I back it off.

I usually run a bead of black or blue RTV around the joint at the transmission/transfer case in place of a gasket.

Worst part is actually reaching/breaking free the top two bolts.
