My credo
It is what it is
how hard is it to change a 2.9 with a 3.0? what all has to be changed besides the computer? Mine is a automatic. does the bellhousing have to be changed as well? thanks for the imput........

i've read that most people prefer the 2.9. are you looking for a low mileage engine? what are your thoughts?

4.0 is better swap since is the same block like ron said. 3.0 is totally different...

which trans do you use?

best would be to get an engine with matching harness, computer and trans

tech library helps a lot

The 4.0 is the better choice here. The 3.0 does not belong in a Ranger, or BII, at all and should never have been put there, eve by the factory. They are car engines, put in trucks by the only people I have less respect for than engineers. Marketing executives.

You will get less power, same or only slightly higher mileage, and be thoroughly disappointed.

my 2.9 rattles like hell . my 88 3.0 runs good

thanks for the info

hmm...me too
it would fit with the 4.0, but i think it will fail sooner or later
i´d swap the trans too

I might fix the 2.9. its not a daily driver I only use it around the hose and for the trails it runs good its just the valve rattle bad
