Replacement t-case slight difference? HELP

Hey Guys! I just picked up a used BW1354 from a 97 Ranger... to replace my devistated t-case in my 96. The replacement t-case has an additional magnetic sensor just left of the vss & the shift motor has a different plug (round). Both trucks are 5spd.
What is this sensor? If I remove it to match my old case... will that adversely affect it's performance?
I really appreciate any help I can get.:icon_confused:
