Question,
I have a 2008 Ranger sport regular cab, with am/fm cd-ipod. The speakers sounds really bad, I was at Walmart and I saw Pioneer, Ford/Mazda replacement speakers, the cones on them are blue and it is a 3 way 8x6 speaker. Will these fit in the front doors and behind the seats? Also any thoughts on the sound replacing the stock cardboard speakers with these, I thought I saw on the Ford web site that there is a speaker upgrade and that they use Pioneer.
thanks
Brian

Fiddle with the EQ on your iPod.

My stock speakers sound fantastic when EQ'ed well.

And you can always take the speakers out to size them up next to the Pioneers. Just 4 screws and a plug. No soldering required.

Should say what year's they fit on the back of the box. I have these speakers in my doors and they are awesome with my ipod and pioneer head unit. I think they do fit though. You can splice the wires, but soldering, with shrink tube is best for long run.

Biggest improvement will come with an aftermarket head unit.

Strong, strong suggestion: shop on Crutchfield. You can shop a bunch of different brands of speaker, and they throw in the wiring connecters for free. Definitely, 100% worth it.

I've got a set of the 6x8 stock Pioneer 3ways from my 05 sport trac with the Adrenalin sounds package sitting here. Let me know if you are interested.

i bought those pioneer speakers you're talking about and replaced my rear speakers with those. THEY SOUNDED HORRIBLE. they wouldn't take as much volume, not as much bass, not as loud, didn't sound full at all just REALLY trebble-ly.

i took them and back to wal-mart as fast as i could and put back my STOCK speakers. My truck is a 98, i have a 2007 poineer CD unit. not sure which model, it was about $200 though.

i have a friend with an 07 ranger with the stock CD player and my old 98 spearkers with the poineer CD player sound much much much better than his.

hope that helps.

Thanks for all the advise,, I guess when I have some extra $$ , just replace the entire system. I guess the head unit must not put out much power, so upgrading speakers and keeping the stock radio will not do much for me...
thanks again..
Best Buy here I come....

For what its worth, I have the Walmart Pioneers in the back & hate them. But I have some Kickers in the front, pretty cheap, and love em.

Best Buy has Infinity replacement speakers. On the box they say 5x7 but in the finer print they fit 6x8. I can confirm this as I have 4 of them. Not exactly cheap though. I run mine off a 125x4 amp so i don't know how they would sound off of just a head unit. They definitely do not have enough bass by themselves, I tossed in a 6.5" powered Bazooka and the system is perfect for that little truck.

Thanks for the Infinity tip. I looked last night on BestBuy site, and they have allot of 4x50 units for well under 200 bucks.. Gotta start saving my nickels..... Looking at there prices I should be able to replace the 4 stock speakers and radio installed for about $500.00.

Speakers aren't made for lots of bass. They are meant for mids and highs, buy a sub if you want Lows.

Crutchfield charges the same price as Circuit City and Best Buy, BUT, Crutchfield also includes the free install kit ($20 in circuit city) and a free wiring adapter kit (another $20) and if necessary, although on a ranger it won't be, the antenna adapter kit ($10, but not needed). They also include a vehicle specific installation guide for your ranger, incase you have never installed a head unit before. Last time I purchased for Crutchfield, shipping was also free.

I have Pioneer 6x8" in the front as well, and they were cheap as well. If you blast your radio all the time with the stock head unit, they'll (speakers) suck. You get what you pay for. But if you listen with the radio at moderate levels on 2-way spealers and without a heavy load of bass, they'll be fine.

An aftermarket head unit does help. Try the equalizer tip mentioned above (unfamiliar w/ Ipod peripherals). You don't always need an expensive setup of speakers to enjoy your music.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I picked up a set of Pioneer TS-A6871R from Walmart and installed them in the back.. They do sound better than the stock speakers, but still not the sound I am looking for. They were only 56.00 at Walmart.
