I replaced my power steering pump on the Ranger, along with both lines to the steering box. I was turning the pulley by hand to flush the fluid out through the return line, and the new pump is making a sort of 'clicking' noise. :annoyed:

Have you tried putting a little fluid in it to lubricate?

SVT

Ya. I put fluid in and was turning the pulley by hand to flush the system in to a pan.

I can't say I've heard of this type of problem. I'm sure you've checked for any obvious signs that could make the noise, like anything contacting the pulley. Does it make the same noise in both directions of the pulley being turned, and is the noise any louder or different tone from one direction to the other?

SVT

Only makes noise turning it to the right (pumping).

I'd be inclined to pull the reservoir for inspection, something isn't right. I know its more labor on your end, but I'd pull the pump and remove the reservoir, take a look. Something could be in it that doesjt need to be. I'd hate to say run it and try, only to have to pull it again to warranty it...

SVT

I got it from O'Reillys. I called and they won't have another one until tomorrow, so I called Napa. They'll have one today by 1pm. I don't want to foll with one that's making noise before I even run it.

If you have multiple O'Reilly stores in your area, check another store, usually they will have one, and you can just swap it out there...

SVT

Put some little fluid. It will be fine.
