Replace Fuseable link?

I have a 86 Bronco II w/ 2.9l V6 that has been sitting for a while with the battery unplugged. I decided I wanted to move it across the yard to sell it, and when I hooked up the battery and went to start it, smoke came out of a fuseable link on the ground side.

I've checked all the other wires, can't seem to find a short anywhere else, all my other wires seem good.

Could it be that this Fuseable link just needs replacing? Since I'm going to sell it, I don't mind grabbing one off of a truck in the boneyard, but what should I look at before I do that?

Replace the fuseable link, and check all the fuses, then connect the battery cables correctly. There shouldn't be any smoke when you hookup a battery, sounds to me like you connected the battery backwards.

I can't imagine I did that, but stranger things have happened. Thanks!

Oh trust me I've done the same thing not really paying attention at first and sent sparks and smoke rolling luckily it was an older vehicle so nothing major other than a fuse link and some fuses.

Sounds to me like you connected the battery backwards. I can't see why a Ground would do that.
