replace 2.3 DOHC with SOHC

I have an 03 with a 2.3 DOHC that I, for the longest time, was planning on rebuilding. I just found out that it is un-rebuildable and am wondering if I can drop in a SOHC without any modification?

Those aren't actually the same engine. The trans won't even bolt up properly.

Not to mention putting in a sohc would be a wiring nightmare too. just replace the engine. putting in a sohc is essentially a downgrade, since the dohc has more power and matches the sohc in terms of reliability. I've owned both and they were both bulletproof engines, but the dohc was my favorite because the truck didn't feel nearly as underpowered as my old lima did.
