Do I need to have the heater on when I drain the radiator? I read something about that and I want to make sure I don't do it wrong.

My tensioner bolt snapped and I need to drill it out. I can't warm up the engine or really have it on while draining the radiator. Will that cause problems?

Maybe they mean have the heat turned on, and the fan blowing (not the car actually running) so the heater core drains too?

Seems running an engine while draining the coolant is a really bad idea.

Yea, when I started typing the post I was wondering how running the truck while draining the radiator works lol.

That makes more sense. I think the issue was if you don't. Coolant will be left in there. Then when you fill the coolant back up it causes an air pocked which blows your head gasket?

I don't really know how the cooling system works lol.

What they mean is opening the heater valve by turning the temp setting to hot - not running the fan or the engine. That may mean running the engine if it's vacuum operated (then off before draining) or turning the key to on if it's electrical.

I've never found I could get any coolant out of the heater core. Water pump circulates coolant.

I think so and I forgot to do this lol.

Does anyone know this?

I filled up my radiator and "burped" it. My temp gauge went to normal then dropped down to cold and stayed there, so I turned off the truck. I did not rev it to 2.5k. Just waited for it to heat up.

Drove it around the block. Then the next day filled up the radiator and it seems to be at the correct level. Could I have air bubbles trapped inside? Would it burp itself if I missed some or do I have to have the radiator cap off to get the bubbles out?
