How on this Green Earth do you get that dang, dadd blasted, fan off the water pump??

I have removed the four bolts and the pulley is loose, but the fan is stuck or something.

Robert

The four bolts on the pulley are the last step. The fan is threaded on. Turn the fan in the direction of engine rotation while holding the pulley still. I built a flat piece of metal with two holes spaced the distance of two consecutive pulley bolts. I put two of the pulley bolts into the holes, tighten them, and wrench on the fan hex.

Many people destroy the pulley getting the fan off.

Actually, go to your local AutoZone, they can loan you the clutch fan removal tool, makes it a whole lot easier and PITA free :icon_thumby: There is a deposit for the tool, but you get it back when you return it

or a local shop will probably lend it out to you, its a left handed thread too if your looking for at the engine haha, everyone told us it was a reverse thread--but i guess it depends how you look at it

I think that not all years are reverse threads. I remember reading something about it but not exactly where the year change is. Can someone confirm this?

You would be correct, no all years are reverse, some are reverse, some are standard, I want to say the 2.9L's are reverse and the 4.0L are standard, but don't quote me. Your fan shroud should indicate whether standard or reverse, if it still there. Look at it this way, it's a 50/50 shot :icon_thumby:

I think your right with this plus my 2.9 left hand threads had that little groove that you see on some fittings to mark left hand threads.

It's 1 7/16 with a strap wrench to hold the pulley.Ive also used the Allend system of hitting the wrench with a hammer with the belt still on really works the best.

If the pulley has grooves ( or just one large one ) it will be left hand thread. If the pulley is flat, it will be normal right hand thread.

Wow! Guys, it is SIMPLE! As the fan is being turned it gets tightned! So look at how the fan spins to pull air INTO the engine area.. Then turn it the SAME WAY to get it loose!
I always start by loosening up fans! The first thing I do is get a wrench that fits the fan-nut. I then hit it a few times with my bfh.. Usually it only takes 3 or 4 hits and it comes loose. The BELT holds the rest of the assembly in place while I am tapping the wrench.
Then when the fan is hand-tight I take the rest of the thing apart.
