Hello all,

I want to replace my upstream o2 sensor on my 1985 ranger with the 2.8. Tested on it and it's bad, wiring is good. How do I get it out? I can't seem to fit a wrench, and a socket would have to be ridiculously deep. I don't feel like removing half the engine bay to replace something this insignificant.
My only thought is to cut it with a hack saw just before the "nut" portion of the sensor

They make sockets designed for removing O2 sensors. Not sure if it would help in your case.

This style usually works better in tight places. You can pick either type up at autozone, advanced, etc.

+1 ^^^^

Because of the attached wire O2's pretty much need a special wrench
The above picture is a type of Flare crowfoot wrench made for O2s, Harbour Freight cost is $8
The benefit of the crowfoot type wrench is that you can be under the O2 and still get wrench on to loosen or install

Flare type means it gets more "bite" on the nut part than an "open end" type wrench which can round off a tight nut/bolt

O2s use 22mm or 7/8's size wrench or socket

To get the old one off you can cut the wire off, if it helps, but can't do that when installing the new one, lol

Also penetrating fluid and/or heat is your friend. O2 sensors are not known for coming off easily...

Take it to your local ma and pop muffeler shop and throw them a $20 to pull the senser.
